Nice Vids (baby JCVD and trailer combined!)

Two of the best viral videos at the moment that seem to have arrived in my in box from several places are interesting to look at. The first is a superbly edited homage to all the films that have been and gone in 2008, and a nice way to remember the year in movie.

The second is an very funny tribute to a baby JCVD who as you know we love at Newmanfilms!

All good and speak soon peoples! Let us know what you are thinking?

MONDAY MORNING THOUGHTS (thor news!)

A few days, (or is it weeks ago?) Eartha Kitt, one of the original portrayers of Catwoman passed away in her octogenarian years. Famous for being stylishly sexy and sultry she would for many in the 60’s (hand in hand with Julie Newmar) bring a nice fit for the lady of crime.

A second actor from the Batman canon has passed away this weekend. Pat Hingle, whose portrayal as Commissioner Gordon through four films, was markedly different from Oldman’s more realistic stance, but enjoyable nevertheless.Pat was a character actor that appeared with a cornucopia of the greats and had a huge career, from starting in "On the Waterfront" with Brando, to playing in “Talladega Nights: the legend of Ricky Bobby” just a couple of years ago. (Surely a mark off his range I would say)

I recommend IMDB’ing him and having a look

Donald Blake (do you know him Comic Book fans?) has been added as a part to play on the upcoming film adaptation of “Thor” directed by the one and only Kenneth Brannagh. “Why” you cry loudly by the hills of Asgard has this happened? Well up to this point according to various online gossip mongers the character will be there to find the hammer and become the embodiment of Thor on Earth (avengers anyone?)

However what everyone seems to be missing in their quest is the wider ramifications of this addition!

Does this mean in the Marvel Cannon we will have Thor being played by actor A for the purposes of the Thor movie (set in Asgard and looking massive!) and then at the end of the film have a different actor find the hammer and be playing the character in the follow on team up the Avengers!

Well hopefully that will cause a rumour itself !

Love you kids enjoy the link in the page, and stay in touch!

new film year.....(some cool trailer action - fan fav)

Well the new year rolls on and two posts in just as many days. All of you guys that carry on searching the net through the holidays will have probably seen these two, but if you haven’t there certainly worth a click.

The first is the Hollywood remake of an understated but fantastic BBC mini-series called state of play, featuring two actors who are not as well known in the states, (both of whom have a Doc Who connection though), John Simm, and David Morrisey, whose roles are replayed here by Russell Crowe and Ben Affleck. All good it seems from the trailer, and it’s got Helen Mirren playing the role originally cast for Bill Nighy, but we’ll wait and see. I stand hopeful, and hopefully new wide screen you tube looks ok here?

Also I have to take my hat of to the production of probably the best fan trailer ever. The virtual “Thundercats” trailer is just pitch perfect. and it makes you wish for the real casting to be just as ingenious. (Hats of for the edited footage from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. All good.

See what you think,

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2009 (woo woo)

I guess it’s traditional for all good movie sites to start the year with what they are looking forward to. I did that last year with a meandering ramble regarding the films coming out in the flowing 12 month period. This will be kinda the same, but I first, a massive and simple note from the heart in the Key of A (just like a party blower?)

“…..Happy New Year……!”.

So…

All the nerds in the UK are avoiding movie gossip as they are presently more preoccupied with the casting of the new Doctor Who (remarkably early announcement of Matt Smith…just click).

So this year here is three that I’m really looking forward to seeing (still not sure about hearing - followers of blog..). Oh and before anyone complains it goes without saying that Watchmen, The Spirit (kinda), X-Men Origins wolverine, and several others are already not to be missed, so these are three others.

Sherlock Holmes
(Starring Robert Downey Jnr, Jude Law, and directed by Guy (cheers for the settlement Maj) Ritchie

RDJ has suffered a massive pay increase in Hollywood thanks to Iron Man and his multi film deal, so this one should be impressive. Heavy on the Kung Fu and action, as well as plot points nicked from several books from the original canon. Downey is one of the few Americans that can do an English accent and bravo! The big reveal of Morriate in the end (I’m sure there will be one) will bound to lead to talk of sequels.

Star Trek
(Ensemble cast including well I’m sure you know…)
The latest offering does a Batman and a Bond and reboots to the beginning of the saga when James T Kirk, got his exams yadda and became a rookie in Star Fleet. A young spock and crew join him, in a film that again will try to reboot, play with time lines, and still allegedly stay true to the original shouters of Enterprise techno babble. Truthfully who doesn’t want to see this?Inglorious Bastards
Tarentino’s latest hits us soon. An ode to the Dirty dozen has a massive stellar cast and well written plot, that promises a cross between Saving Private Ryan, Reservoir dogs, and a spaghetti western. Bound to be a top notch flick for nostalgic and modern audiences.

So there’s the ones I like the look of,
Love you all and once more what casting for doctor who? Only time will tell..

roger moore (film of his life!)

It is with great glee that this writer puts pen to paper when he hears that the next big idea in Hollywood is to film the life story of Roger Moore.

Moore has been known in his career as a swaggering gentleman personified in the Saint and as Bond, but for those in the know; had the markings at an early age as a great actor, and although never allowed to reach the peak of his skills (purely through typecasting) he has hit octogenarian status (I think?) with a consistent love of live and acceptance as his place in cinema.

Whether you watch the saint form the 60’s or the persuaders from the 70’s or Bond through the 70’s and 80’s he has a great screen presence. I strongly recommend you catch the 1970 film called “The Man who haunted himself” where Moore’s performance hints at genuine greatness.

I loved his biography which reveals his thoughts, copious anecdotes as well as the Hollywood players he was not too fond of. For me, his writing style appears to be not ghost writen I am pleased to say, and most importantly, thoughtful and insightful

Heres a trailer for Roger's top performance in "The Man who Haunted Himself" - the film is top notch but forgive and except the 70's trailer style.

So Who could play this man ?

Johnny Depp was slyly suggested by Roger himself in a recent interview, and sure he may have the acting chops, but I’m not too sure? As always thoughts and suggestions are always welcome people.

MYSTERY TEAM (brand new stonkin trailer)

Morning all !

I love being in a world where people can self publish, this Blog is a prime example and its following has given me sense of worth that my writing is quite liked. In the film world the guys at Derrick Comedy , have produced a trailer for what may be their first full length feature. Entitled Mystery Team the guys have put together a witty couple of minutes.

I strongly recommend you check out the trailer as it will raise a smile. Some of their shorts(I believe released through college humour) are risqué but very very funny, particularly if you like Guy Pierce’s turn in memento. (watch it you’ll see what I mean)

Who says Hollywood doesn’t listen as well, remember the wonderful short trailer I featured for Grayson? A fan made film that highlighted a pretend movie about Batman’s side kick. Well it seems as a replacement for Smallville next season is going to be called the Grayson’s about the family that produced Robin.

Back on track though please feel free to enjoy and check out their website Derrick Comedy

Love and Peace
