Battlestar Galactica: Al and Lissa’s Ten Moments Worth Talking About (And Five Where You Can Save Your Breath)

Posted by Lissa

BATTLESTAR GALACTICA
AL AND LISSA’S TEN MOMENTS WORTH TALKING ABOUT (AND FIVE WHERE YOU CAN SAVE YOUR BREATH)

DISCLAIMER
There are two kinds of people when it comes to Battlestar Galactica: those who love it and those who will. For anyone in the latter category, please stop reading now. Seriously, I mean it. The following geek session contains discussion about every season of Galactica so far: events, characters, and episodes that will be MAJOR SPOILERS for anyone who isn’t up to date. BSG is the best show on television right now and for us to cheat you out of experiencing it untarnished simply isn’t fair. So, please, go read Justin’s excellent review of seasons one and two or browse Findaflik for something else to occupy your time today. Or better yet, run down to your local video store and grab it for yourself. Anyway, consider yourself warned.

—–

With the last half of the last season of Battlestar Galactica primed and ready to launch, Lissa and I have decided to get our geek on and create lists of the moments during the past three-and-a-half seasons that really knocked us out. They could be events that shocked us or left us feeling gutpunched, character moments that helped us define or see another side to those who inhabit the rag tag fleet, or scenes that put our hearts in our throat with adrenaline or anger or sadness or fear.

Of course, not everything in the past five years is worth putting on the ‘For Your Consideration’ reel. Boxey. Pregnant Six. And, of course, Lee whining and whining and whining and whining. And what more fun than tearing down the stuff that bugs you? So grab your gun and bring in the cat, as we present our Top Ten Battlestar Moments Worth Talking About (and Five Where You Can Save Your Breath)!

The Closing of the Year

Posted by Justin

Today’s another construction day with the new site here — some things too little to mention, but we do have a new spiffy Viewings page for you to check out — and I didn’t want the year to end without a couple of things said.

The first is that, as always, I am extremely proud and grateful to be working alongside of terrific writers and friends that comprise the Mutant Reviewers staff. I constantly find myself shaking my head — how could we still be doing this after 11 years? — but then I realize that the answer really is relationships. Some of us come (it’s been terrific to have Heather and Courtney join us this year), some of us depart, but this site becomes a photo album for our lives and experiences that we share with each other.

The second is that I want to thank all of our readers — you! — from the bottom of my heart for continuing to read and support MRFH over the years. You guys keep us honest with error corrections, keep us busy with suggested movies to review, and keep us company in the forums with interesting and often bizarre discussions.

The question that gets asked, from time to time, is “How long will you guys be doing this?”

The answer: “As long as we can.”

Happy New Year from Mutant Reviewers From Hell!

Drew’s Mutant Viewing of A Christmas Carol (1938)

Posted by Justin

It’s a simple concept. A beloved Christmas story written in 1843. A film version created in 1938, available for free on On Demand. Friday night, beer, wine and a sausage pizza. A joint collaboration by Drew, Lady Luck, and Baby Luck (whose creative contributions were minimal but whose inspiration proved invaluable).

Let’s get our Christmas on, kids.

[0:03] Drew: Sweet, the old-school MGM lion. The one that looked like it would rip your face off if you didn’t sit through the entire movie.

[0:05] Tiny Tim: Oh, no thank you, guv’nor. I’m not very good at running. See, my father took an extra lump of coal last Christmas and Mr. Scrooge broke my leg in three places. He… he was right to do it, sir.
